The future of our forests are at a critical turning point and they need your help, now!
Our South West is unique, rich in cultural significance, and contributes enormous economic value to Western Australia. They provide vital habitat for our iconic threatened animals like the numbat and black cockatoo, and are home to WA’s native giants: the mighty karri, jarrah and marri trees.
Our South West forests are as iconically Western Australian as our sandgroper name; and we finally have an opportunity to protect more of our forests for the future. We can’t miss this chance.
Under the Forest Management Plan, our state has committed to transitioning 600,000 hectares of state forests into new protected areas by 2033, that’s twice the size of the ACT. And with new laws passing to end native-forest logging — the time for these protected areas is now.
But there’s just one problem. There’s not enough funding.
The success of the Forest Management Plan hinges on proper funding to see it make the most impact for people and nature. With more funding comes partnership-ready, joint management agreements for Noongar people, and capacity for the responsible agencies to deliver on real conservation outcomes.
This is our once-in-a-generation chance. Will you send a letter to our decision-makers?
