WA is already better by nature — but we need to do better for nature.

Healthy nature means a better WA – for everyone.

Nature is a part of us: our culture, lifestyle, traditions and identity. It helps us create jobs, strengthen our regions, support First Nations to care for Country, and it also gives us a reason to visit and play in some of the best places in the world. But WA’s nature is at risk from some pretty big challenges, and we need you to act now to make sure it sticks around for the future.

Let's make it better!

Facts

Under-protected animals

WA’s threatened animals are most vulnerable in our under-protected regions like the Pilbara, Wheatbelt and Murchison. Actively managed protected areas in these regions can help turn the tide of growing animal extinctions in WA and save our local species.

Global Biodiversity Hotspot

Did you know Western Australia is home to 8 of the 15 biodiversity hotspots found in Australia. A biodiversity hotspot is a region bursting with species found nowhere else on Earth—but it’s also one of the most threatened places, needing urgent protection.

The Wildflower State

WA is home to one of the world's greatest wildflower shows, with over 12,000 species—more than half unique to WA—blooming across our deserts, woodlands, coastlines and forests from June to November. One national park in WA alone boasts more flowering plants than the entire United Kingdom!

Full-colour Finches

Gouldian finches’ head colours—red, black, or yellow—match their unique personalities. Red are aggressive and take the best nesting spots; black are bold explorers and love finding new things; and the rarest yellow ones are gentle and docile.

The Great Western Woodlands

The Great Western Woodlands is the largest and healthiest temperate woodland on Earth — and it’s right here in WA. Covering nearly 16 million hectares (that’s three times bigger than Tasmania!), it’s home to thousands of plant and animal species and some of the oldest ecosystems on the planet.

Our vision

We know WA’s already better by nature — but we can do better for nature. Our vision is a future where WA’s favourite places aren’t at risk of being lost, and where our landscapes, animals, plants and culture are protected, celebrated and passed on — in even better shape — to future generations. Together with First Nations, conservationists, communities and all West Aussies, we’re backing practical, proven and lasting solutions to keep WA better by nature. 💪
